Meeting minutes for community council meeting 12/20/2009
Agendar
- late meeting times
- next Sunday, are we going to cleanup, or be open?
- administrative update [Eads]
- supervolunteer pricing vote (tabled from last time)
- governance update
- vote on Jeremy for staff
- nomination for Janet as staff
- money update
- teardown proposal
Administrative update
- we now have heat (yay!)
- we have $1300 in the bank account
Late meeting times
- [Sam] we often start meetings too late
- [Eads] duly noted, not necessary to vote on
Schedule
- next two sundays, are we going to be open?
- Sun Dec 27
- there aren't any keyholders who can commit to being here, but there should be someone available between the three of us
- Sun Jan 3
- Dee [Newcum] will be here, other people will probably be here too
Supervolunteer discount
- [Eads] Can we defer until after christmas?
- [Jeremy] we've already deferred three times
- the three proposals are:
- a flat discount off the top
- a percentage off
- a discount that accrues with the number of hours volunteered
- percent discount off would have much less administrative overhead
- proposal: 20% up to $200
- the $200 max would add administrative overhead, but that's something we can handle
- proposal: 30% up to $200 list price (same as the staff discount)
Jeremy's nomination
(we're discussing Jeremy's nomination before voting on supervolunteer discount, so he doesn't have to vote as both supervolunteer and staff in the same meeting)
- does Jeremy get to vote on whether he's staff?
- this is something we need to clarify for future nominations as well
- also, we need to clarify impeachment procedures at some point - but that's a pretty significant aside
- vote: [10 for, none against, Jeremy abstains]
- motion is passed
Supervolunteer discount (continued)
- proposal: supervolunteers get same discount as staff (30% up to $200 list price)
- vote: 10 for, none against, zero abstaining
- TODO: next staff meeting, we need to agree on a way to track the $200 yearly max
Jonathon's WiMax presentation
- clear.com
- he'd like to set up an informational table on Sundays to present pricing information
- question: what would we get out of it?
- [Jonathon] It MIGHT be possible to get a discount, but that's not certain.
- [Eads] we'll discuss it at the next meething, since we could discuss it more frankly when Jonathon isn't present
- [Buckley] (something muttered under his breath)
Nomination for Janet
- [Eads] only staff can nominate new staff, the community council's role is to ratify the nomination. However, supervolunteer can vote to recommend that staff consider someone for staff nomination.
- [Cathy] I nominate Sam, Janet and Aaron
- let's just keep it to Janet for now
- TODO: staff will discuss the nomination of Janet to the staff at the next staff meeting
Money update
- we have $1300 in the bank. What are the priorities?
- how much do we owe in back rent? A: somewhere between $900 and $1100.
- [Taylor] it's been a long while since we've recycled anything. It would be $1500 to do a recycling run.
- [Buckley] a geek prom could pull in $4000
Teardown proposal
- [Malcom] when people jump from Teardown to Build, often they don't
- [Eads] several people have proposed that every station (build, test, OS install) has a separate orientation
- [Taylor] we have the orientation script on-wiki... feel free to edit it
