2010Q1 recycling run TODOs

We recently agreed to send out regular updates regarding the todo items for the recycling run, to try to keep everyone coordinated across the Friday/Sunday? shifts.

THE BIG DAY is Friday March 5th. We'll need all the help we can get to move things onto the truck. Please keep this day open on your calenders if at all possible.

The current list of TODOs:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Whenever we have extra resources, we should direct volunteers to sort out the boxes of mixed plastic/circuitboards/metal into well-sorted categories:
  1. circuit boards only
  2. metal only
  3. plastic only
  4. components with mixed materials that we've agreed we're not going to break down further (whole keyboards, whole floppy drives, whole CD drives, whole printers, ...)
  • We need to acquire a few more gaylords, as this will make sorting the current boxes much easier, in addition to the fact that we need more storage space -- the existing boxes are overflowing. We've explored getting some shipped from  ULine in Waukegan. However, the gaylords are shipped laid flat, which means they're 6' x 6' during transport. Options for shipping include: 1) driving a largish van up there (Taylor said he'd check on whether the one he knows about is available), or 2) paying $50 for a motor freight shipment. Another option might be to look for a cargo-box supplier much closer to us, though if they're more than a mile away (ie. farther than two people can walk), we'll run into the exact same shipping issues.
